I couldn’t wait to get a few of my favorite shots out there to all of you. Some of these are outtakes, some might make it into the commercial. We haven’t color corrected anything yet, so this is just the way it came out of the camera.

I’ve got three songs to get to get you geared up to go big, because it’s time to rock.

To start, we’ve got Busted by The Black Keys, off their album The Big Come Up. I got into this cd right around the time I was attending the Santa Barbara Film Festival with Niel back in 2007.

We stayed at the Sandman Inn (room 340) and this cd was rockin’ from our dvd player through the tv the whole weekend (no one ever accused either of us of being on the cutting edge of music listening technology.)

Second, we’ve got a song from Gang of Four, Damaged Goods is off their album Entertainment!.  It just rocks.

And to round it out, I decided against including a Led Zeppelin song mostly because everyone knows them so well. Instead, I chose an equally well known artist who also rocks. I can’t say my methods are always consistent or logical. But I love this song, Suffragette City by David Bowie, and Colbert included a reference to it in a bit the other night. So maybe that’s why it is on my mind.

To start off, we’ve got the First Lady of France herself, Mrs. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The title song off her album from back when she was just the sultry model-turned-crooner: Quelqu’un M’a Dit.

Up next is a song from Vincent DeLerm, off his eponymous album. Tes Parents is a song about the extreme measures a young man will go to in order to impress the parents of his girl.

And to finish things off, you may have heard this song in the film The Darjeeling Limited. If not, it’s ok, you’ll probably enjoy it anyway. After all, who doesn’t love Les Champs-Élysées?

In that spirit, I present your three songs you should hear. To get you in the mood to make it happen: Get to the beach, the pool, the lake (any body of water, really) or just take a weekend road trip so you can drive back as the sunsets behind you on Sunday evening. It will be perfect.

Off the album I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning comes our first selection. It will get you all pumped up to get out on the road and open it up, this is Another Travellin’ Song by Bright Eyes:

Three Songs You Should Hear (Again?): The Stones

Second, a song I love featuring the vocals of drummer Mo Tucker (that’s short for Maureen). She sings this song and After Hours which are both dear to my heart due to the purity in her voice. After drumming for The Velvet Underground, Mo went on to be a stay-at-home mother. Could you imagine if your mother was the drummer of one of the great rock bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s? And finally, when it’s time to rock, few can rock as well as Lou Reed. Classic VU style and substance in Rock and Roll.

If that’s not enough of a fix for you, check youtube for all sorts of great live versions and rare tracks (can a track be rare once it’s on youtube?). Either way, have a great weekend.

I thought you all might need a little Johnny Cash to take you into the weekend. Here are my three selections:

1. My all-time favorite Cash song. As the fellow says about telling a story, give the audience what they didn’t know they wanted. With apologies to the parents of the character in Swingers, this is not a road I’d go down.

3. This is a bit lesser known title, “Any Old Wind That Blows” but there’s something about the plain-spoken poetry that captivates me. He’s much more of a wordsmith than he gets credit for.
