Kicking Mule Workshop 2010s. Those are my jeans. Many have accused me of overanalyzing it and caring too much. The word obsession was tossed around. I finally made a purchase.

Here they are. Let the journey begin.

Can Levi’s Live up to it’s ‘Go Forth’ Campaign?

In David Meerman Scott’s The New Rules of Marketing and PR he stresses the importance of monitoring your company’s online reputation. What is being said about you online? How are you interacting with your potential customers online? Are you ignoring important complaints? Are you finding solutions to problems?

Last Wednesday I posted here about the great campaign Wieden + Kennedy has developed for Levi’s Jeans. As you can tell from the tone, I was very excited about it. In fact, I was seriously contemplating adding some 501 Shrink to Fit jeans to my wardrobe because of it.

That afternoon I sent out this tweet:

@Levisguy looking for a higher quality denim than the standard 501 Shrink to Fit. Raw, selvedge preferred. Not too $$$. Recommendations?

This is the twitter address I was sent to when I clicked the “follow us on twitter” link on the new Levi’s homepage. Despite his declaration that he’s “attempting to get everyone in a pair of 501’s” I haven’t heard back from Levisguy. A quick look at his tweets shows that he has been online and active in the last five days.

This may be a small thing, but it suggests to me that there is a disconnect between the campaign and the company’s performance.

My question now is if Levi’s is ready to live up to it’s ‘Go Forth’ campaign. Wieden + Kennedy has done a fantastic job giving them a look and feel that fits right into the zietgeist of our time. The videos are inspiring, the website uses all the interactive tools (and is really cool.) The promotional tools are in place. Is the company ready to use them?

I was up in Portland the other day and stopped by a little shop called Blake. I’ve been looking for a nice solid pair of jeans that aren’t too baggy or too tight (my legs aren’t skinny), and that aren’t so worn in that they’re going to fall apart on me in less than two years. The guy, Blake, was very cool and from the look and feel of the shop he clearly knows what he’s doing. He directed me towards trying on these Kicking Mule Workshop jeans.

They are raw jeans, so the breaking in hasn’t been done yet. I liked that. They weren’t too tight for my thick thighs. Blake mentioned that many cyclists like these for that purpose. The only hold up for me is the price tag. At $275 these pants are about $250 or so more than I have previously paid for jeans in my life. I guess that might be why they always fall apart. So for now I’ll be lusting from afar and saving my pennies. While there I also enjoyed trying on this chambray shirt:

It seems like everybody is talking about chambray shirts these days. This one seemed great to me. Comfy, durable. Everything I would want in a $225 shirt. If I could afford that sort of thing. (photos swiped off contextclothing.com)
