Jeans, dark horses making a push

I’ve been busy in my search for the right pair of jeans, running all over Portland trying on this and that. I happened past Nolita, a store that’s all about denim. The guy there had me try on these:

Simon Miller Jeans, M001. He loves these, and was pretty persuasive. They’re raw, but more comfortable to start out with than others. This did make me worry about durability, one of my highest priorities for this purchase. This is definitely a dark horse.

The other pair I tried on since the last post hardly qualifies as an underground pick:

APC New Standards. The story on these is that you buy them tight and they stretch a lot, fitting to your individual body as they do so.

The girls over at Blake were high on these and very helpful. They didn’t even complain that I left a pile of tried on Jeans in my wake. These are rising up my list. Now to get a better idea of how the Nudie’s fit. I’ll get to the bottom of this soon enough.

Jake, those jearns are some kind of skinny.

which ones? The simon millers are skinny, I’m thinking a little too skinny and a little too low rise. but they don’t look terrible on me. APC’s will stretch to fit. I just won’t wear them outside for the first couple of weeks if I go that way. Right now here are the rankings: 1. Kicking Mule Workshop 1980’s
    2. APC
    3. RRL raw straight legs (haven’t tried them on yet)
    4. Nudie average joe’s (haven’t tried on either
    5. Bleu de paname’s, but I’d rather go to France and see that guy’s workspace, try some on and pay him euro’s in person. more of a fantasy/dream scenario than anything.

I kind of hate Nudie jeans…and I hear they’re prone to crotch blow-outs. Have you tried Acne yet?

  4. Jacob Hinmon says:

I haven’t tried on the Nudie’s ones yet. I don’t like the sound of crotch blowouts. I have not tried Acne yet. Any suggestions on a style that would fit someone who weighs more than 135 pounds (in fact, much more)?

I park my fat ass in a pair of Levi’s. Medium rise with a straight leg, they’re cut to fit a normal human being.

  6. Jacob Hinmon says:

If I try regular 501s I look like I’m a cowboy. Not a good look for me. What number levis do you wear? And do you think they’d fit abnormally large thighs?

  7. Lungbury says:

514s. And it depends on how we’re defining “abnormally large”. Are we talking gymnast, softball player, and/or kangaroo? If the thighs are smaller than the aforementioned, 514s will probably still work.

  8. Jacob Hinmon says:

9 5/8″ rise? you call that medium? that’s low in my book. make my torso look like it’s 3/4 of me. I guess I should try them on.
